New Year, New You?

Brace yourself. After all the tasty treats of Christmas, we’re about to embark on the ultimate guilt trip: New Years Resolutions. The time of year when you look at your life and vow to give up drinking/takeaways/chocolate/expensive shoes for the year.

I do the same, every year. Chances are, most of those resolutions are going to fall to the wayside by the third week of January. Cutting things out of your life is a much harder thing to stick to then adding new things in. So instead of vowing to give things up, why not vow to try something new?

Someone mentioned to me a little while ago that after work, family events and personal commitments you have time for 60 fun things. Why not make some of those resolutions into fun things to achieve? So, do you fancy shaping up? Why not set a fun goal, like a marathon or fun walk? Or perhaps you want to improve your diet. Instead of cutting out the rubbish, why not vow to try new foods, or test drive a new smoothie cookbook? You’ll be eating more healthy food without realising.

Here are a few more suggestions to make 2010 fulfilling, without giving up the fun stuff.

  • Learn a language, and book a weekend trip abroad to use it.
  • Cook and bake more. A home cooked roast dinner is so much more rewarding then a Chinese takeaway.
  • Take up a class like Yoga or Salsa. Also, the latter is great for meeting men!
  • See a theatre show or comedy act
  • Try one new thing, every month.

Writing this list will be a lot more motivating then starving yourself on a diet or guilt tripping yourself about not spending an hour on the treadmill every day.
