Love him or hate him, I think Gok Wan has a point with his “buy less, wear more” mantra. Women do have wardrobes packed full of clothes that are barely worn, barely fit and barely flattering. Only the other day I found a top in my wardrobe I bought about 3 years ago still with the tag on!
So with Gok’s mantra stampeding through my head, I have taken one dress and styled it five ways.
The dress is a lace number, bang on trend, from Frocks and Frills at Simply Be.
Look one – A cute/casual look
I’ve added a pair of knee high socks and a pair of Mary Jane’s to pull off the cute look.
Socks – Sock Dreams (sell socks with extra room for those of us who have Rugby player’s calves).
Shoes – Evans circa 2008
Look two – As a tunic
By adding a pair of jeggings, a denim waistcoat (another trend – double denim!) and a belt, the dress now becomes a tunic.
Jeggings – Evans, Denim Waistcoat – Simply Be, Belt – Evans –circa 2007, Trainers – Simply Be, Headband – H&M, Brooches & earrings – Accessorize
Look three – As a skirt
I’ve thrown a t-shirt over the top and added a pair of tights and heels to turn the dress into a skirt.
T-shirt – Evans, Shoe Boots – La Viva Diva, Earrings – Evans
Look four – As a top
I have tucked the dress into a pair of wide legged jeans. Always a risky look for someone my shape – but with a cardigan to disguise the stomach it works.
Jeans – Simply Be, Cardigan – Evans circa 2008, Shoes – Crocs
Look five – As a petticoat
I’ve thrown a blue cotton dress over the top of the lace one to turn it into a petticoat. I’ve added some electric blue leggings and purple heels to make it less like a Victorian schoolgirl costume!
Blue cotton dress – Simply Be circa 2008, Leggings – Evans, Shoes – La Viva Diva, Earrings – Accessorize
So there you have it, one dress five ways – perfect if you are going on holiday and need a capsule wardrobe..
